    Attendance Office Procedures

For absences:  If your child is ever absent, make sure your student brings a note to the attendance office that states that he/she was out sick.  A student has 48 hours after returning from an absence to turn in a note.  After 48 hours, notes will not be accepted for an excused absence.

Remember:  If a student leaves campus without checking out through the office and receiving a pink Permit to Leave Pass, the absence will be unexcused even if a note is produced upon the student’s return.  It is essential that students check out in the office before leaving campus. Ten unexcused absences in one class will trigger an attendance court filing under the State Compulsory Attendance Law.

For appointments:  Bring in a note to the attendance office before school that says that you will be leaving at “x” time for an appointment.  Come to the attendance office after 1st period to pick up a pink pass – you must pick this up before you leave campus.  This pass gets you out of class.  When you return to school, bring a note from the doctor and give to the attendance office.  Bring your pink pass as well - you will need this to get back into class.

Automatic call system: If your student is absent one or more periods, you will receive a phone call about their absence.  If you know where your child is, you may just ignore the call.  Students should not be counted absent when on a field trip or participating in an Anderson sports event, as long as the teacher/coach submitted a field trip list to the attendance office in advance.  However, if a student was unintentionally left off the list or if the list got turned in right before the trip, then a parent will receive a call from the automatic call system.  If you receive a call and your student was out for a field trip or sports event, it is worth following up with the attendance office to find out how and when the absence will be corrected.
