Summer PSAT Preparation Program Deadline Extended

    URGENT!!
Registration deadline extended to noon on June 4, 2009
… THERE ARE JUST A FEW SPACES LEFT…
Anderson HS Summer PSAT Preparation Program

    for current sophomores
(students who will be juniors in the 2009-2010 school year )

Anderson High School is offering a PSAT Preparation Class to current Anderson sophomores, who will be juniors in the 2009-2010 school year. The purpose of this program is to increase the number of Anderson students who participate in college preparation programs and then attend college, and to provide an affordable PSAT review course for Anderson Students.

Last year was our first year to have grant for this program. We had 56 students in the 2008 Anderson PSAT Preparation class and they had an average gain of 17.43 points from their 2007 PSAT (as a sophomore) to their 2008 PSAT (as a juinor). Twenty-five of the 56 students had increases in their scores from 10th to 11th grade of 20 to 40 points. Eleven students saw their scores rise above 200 which puts them in the range to be commended or National Merit Semi-Finalists (the exact cut offs won’t be announced by the National Merit Scholarship until the Fall of 2009).

    Who is eligible:
Current sophomores, students who will be juniors in the 2009-2010 school year

    Goals:
To increase the number of students who participate in college prep programs and then attend college, and to provide an affordable PSAT review course for Anderson students.  The 11th grade PSAT is a practice for the SAT and is also the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships and Commended students.
    Cost:
$40 per student, to fund the cost of PSAT consumable review books and supplies. Our grant will pay the full fee for books and supplies for any student needing assistance or who participates in the free/reduced lunch program.  Financial assistance is available on request.

If you are interested in participating in the PSAT review program this summer and can commit to attending all or most of these sessions, please see the counselor’s secretary for a registration form.  Space is limited to the first 60 sophomores (rising juniors) who complete the registration form and return it to the counselor’s secretary.
