More Graduation Day Info - Bus Details

    Graduation Shuttle Bus

The High School office will arrange for shuttle buses between the Austin High parking lot and the Erwin Center on the following dates/times for graduation: Thursday, June 5, 2008, 2:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

The buses are being provided for staff and families of the graduates and will run at 10 minute intervals (using 2 buses per interval).  While graduates may return with their families on the bus, the graduates will need to be dropped off at the Erwin Center prior to the availability of bus service.  The Austin High parking lot will be patrolled by campus police during the indicated times.

This service is not intended to supplant regular modes of transportation, but is intended to ease the competition for affordable parking options around the Erwin Center.  It might still be wise for a designated person to drop off family members at the Erwin, then return to AHS and take the shuttle back and rejoin the rest of their group.  This will preserve space on the shuttles and allow more people to be moved within a narrower window of time.

More on the transportation issue . . . school buses will be provided for shuttling people between the Austin High parking lot and the Erwin Center. As directed by Roslyn Caldwell, the transportation scheduler, please have your bookkeeper submit the bus requests in the tripmaster system, and she will make sure the buses are there for your use according to the following schedule:

    Thursday, June 5th: Akins - 2:00 - 4:30 Anderson - 4:30 - 7:30 Austin - 7:30 - 10:00

    Friday, June 6th: Bowie - 11:00 - 2:00 Crockett - 2:00 - 4:45 Lanier - 4:45 - 7:30

    Saturday, June 7th: LBJ/LASA - 8:00 - 11:00 McCallum - 11:00 - 2:00 Travis - 2:00 - 5:00

The plan is for 6 buses to be available for each entire day. Except for the first and last events of each day, all buses will be loaded either taking folks to the center, or returning them to Austin High. Please do not promote this as the preferred method of transportation, because there is no way that this system will accomplish getting all family and friends to the Erwin Center on time. It is not designed for that purpose. Instead, please offer the option as a no-cost courtesy service to the families of graduates. It is still a much better idea to carpool, let the driver drop off a group of passengers then go to Austin High and be shuttled back to the Erwin to meet up with the group. Or better yet (but not cheaper), carpool and split the parking fee.

Graduates and faculty members who must be at the Erwin Center at least an hour prior to the commencement should plan to board a shuttle 1 1/2 hours before the ceremony since family members can begin boarding one hour prior to the scheduled ceremony.

This office will accept no responsibility for items left on the buses, OR for the buses not getting to the center before the start of any ceremony, OR for anyone missing the last bus back to Austin High, OR for the bus driver who might have to stop for safety reasons, OR . . . (you kind of get the idea).
The parking lot will be monitored by a security team.
