Several years ago, the Valero Gas Company sealed off the underground gas tanks at the Mesa Mart on Mesa and Steck and moved the gas portion of the business to Spicewood Springs and Mesa. This underground gas tank is subject to monitoring to check for any leakage into the surrounding soil. One of the monitoring wells will be built on the Anderson campus adjacent to the student parking lot. Samples will be taken randomly from the well to check for any leakage reaching the monitoring site. According to our district construction and safety departments, it is nothing to be concerned about but monitoring will occur during the next few years. A letter was sent home with each student of Anderson High School explaining the reasons for the monitoring well and the means by which the monitoring will be done.
