    Latest Scholarship Info

    1.  Austin Rotary Club Foundation — DUE 12/7/07

    Each Austin ISD high school may submit 2 applications.
    Graduating seniors are eligible.  Selection will be based on
    financial need, personal integrity, academic achievement,
    individual character, and demonstrated citizenship.

    2.  Elks 2008 Most Valuable Student Scholarship Competition — DUE 1/11/08

    Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen is eligible.  Applicants
    need NOT be related to a member of the Elks.  Applicants will
    be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

    In addition to the application . . . there is a Counselor’s Report
    that is required.  I am attaching it below.

    3.  The Gates Millennium Scholars Program — DUE 1/11/08

    Minority seniors who are citizens, legal permanent residents or nationals
    of the U.S.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
    or have a GED and will entering as a full-time student in the fall of 2008.
    Applicants must meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria and have
    demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service,
    extracurricular or other activities.

    4.  Wal-Mart Associate Scholarship — DUE 1/14/08

    High school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and
    July 31, 2008 or students who have obtained their GED.  Applicant must have been
    employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and have worked for at least 6 consecutive
    months as of April 25, 2008 OR may be a dependent of a Wal-Mart associate
    who does not qualify for the Walton Family Foundation Scholarship due to the
    Associate-parent’s part-time status or actively employed less than 12 consecutive
    months.  Applicant must have scored at least an 18 on the composite ACT or
    800 on the SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math).

    5.  Sam Walton Community Scholarship — DUE 1/14/08

    High school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and
    July 31, 2008 or students who have obtained their GED and who are not Associates
    of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. or the children/dependents of an Associate of Wal-Mart.
    Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 unweighted scale
    and have taken either the ACT or SAT tests.

    6.  Walton Family Foundation Scholarship — DUE 1/14/08

    High school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and
    July 31, 2008 or students who have obtained their GED.  The parent/legal guardian
    of the applicant is employed full-time with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and has worked
    for at least 12 consecutive months as of April 25, 2008.  Applicants must have
    scored at least 22 composite ACT or 1030 SAT (Critical Reading or Verbal + Math).
    Applicant must be enrolling full-time (at least 12 college credit hours).

    7.  Colorado College Scholars Program — DUE 1/15/08

    Graduating seniors from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas planning
    to attend Colorado College and have families with adjusted gross income of less than
    $150,000 annually.  There is no GPA or SAT/ACT minimum to be considered and
    most competitive applicants rank in the top 10% of their class.  The award is based
    on academic merit and personal character.

    8.  Dell Scholars Program — DUE 1/15/08

    Graduating seniors who have participated in a Michael & Susan Dell Foundation
    approved college readiness program for a minimum of 2 years and are planning
    to enter a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited higher education
    institution in the fall of 2008.  Must have a minimum 2.4 GPA and have U.S.
    citizenship or permanent residency.  Must also demonstrate need for
    financial assistance.

    9.  Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship Essay Contest — DUE 1/15/08

    Graduating seniors residing in the area including Austin, Waco, Bryan/College Station,
    Temple/Belton, Llano and Marble Falls are eligible.  Contestants DO NOT have to
    be members of Mensa.  If the student IS an American Mensa member . . . there
    is a different application that must be completed.

    10. Skidmore College - Filene Music Scholarship Competition — DUE 1/15/08

    High school seniors who meet the criteria for admission to Skidmore College
    and who apply for admission by Jan. 15th.  Filene Scholars are not required to
    major in music but are expected to continue to develop their skills through
    private instruction in the Music Dept. each semester and to participate in
    department ensembles each semester as determined by the department chair.

    11. Southwestern University - Bishop T. Dixon Scholarship — DUE 1/15/08

    Two types of scholarship: full-tuition scholarship and $5,000 scholarship
    Graduating minority seniors who rank in the top 10% of their class, have a
    minimum 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

    13. Washington University - Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program — DUE 1/15/08

    Graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership
    achievements and who have engaged in or shown a commitment to community
    service.  Applicants should also demonstrate their commitment to or
    a history of bringing diverse groups together and celebrating the cultures
    of diverse people.

    14. American Planning Association’s 2007-2008 High School Essay Contest — DUE 1/18/08

    Contest is open to high school juniors or seniors during the
    2007-2008 academic year who are enrolled in a public or private
    high school, in a high school equivalency program, or in a program of
    of home schooling.  Must be residents of the U.S. or a U.S. Territory,
    or who are U.S. citizens living abroad.

    15. W. Neal Kocurek Scholarship — DUE 1/21/08

    2008 graduating seniors within the ISD’s of Travis, Williamson or
    Hays Counties.  Applicants must have been accepted to an accredited
    higher education college or university to pursue a degree in a health-
    care related discipline.  Must attend an accredited Texas-based
    college or university as a full-time student.

    16. Texas Engineering Foundation Scholarship — DUE 1/21/08

    High school seniors who are U.S. citizens with at least a 3.0 GPA,
    entering college in 2008, and will be enrolling full-time in an
    ABET-accredited engineering program at a Texas university.
    Must have scored at least a 600 in math, a 550 in critical reading
    and a 500 in writing on the SAT, or a 29 in math and a 25
    in English on the ACT.

    17. Carr P. Collins Scholars Program — DUE 1/31/08

    Graduating seniors who meet all Baylor University requirements
    for unconditional admission; have a minimum combined Critical
    Reading and Math score of 1250 SAT or minimum score of 28
    on the ACT; have completed a balance college preparatory
    program including history, science, and a foreign language;
    be in the top quarter of the graduating class; and a resident
    of the State of Texas.

    18. Texas Student Housing Authority Scholarships — DUE 1/31/08

    Graduating high school seniors accepted to or attending college
    in Austin, College Station, Denton or San Marcos, Texas that have
    NOT signed off campus housing leases with a TSH facility managed
    by Asset Campus Housing.  Scholarships are awarded for the partial
    cost of a room for one academic year at the Ballpark in Austin,
    Town Lake in Austin, the Ridge at North Texas, the Ridge at
    San Marcos and the Cambridge in College Station.

    19. Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship — DUE 1/31/08

    Graduating seniors planning to attend a university, college or
    technical institute in the summer or fall term of 2008.  Applicants
    must be members or children of members of local unions or children
    whose legal guardians are members of local unions that are affiliated
    with the Texas AFL-CIO AND the local Central Labor Council.

    20. Statesman 2008 Excellence in Writing Scholarship Competition — DUE 3/5/08

    All high school juniors and seniors who live in the Austin American-
    Statesman home subscription area (with the exception of students
    whose parents or guardians are employees of the competition
    sponsors — the Austin American-Statesman, AMD and 3M).
    Students may submit an editorial cartoon or editorial on the
    topic: Technology and the 2008 Election.  See the website
